Andrew Buckley started his career in image making at 15 years old at the famous Australian beach of North Narrabeen. After spending his childhood surfing and skateboarding, shooting photos of his mates lead to him doing work experience for Tracks magazine and landing his first ever published image of then professional surfer Glen Winton.
Over the years, Andrew, known to most as ‘Shorty’, would go on to become one of the best surf photographers in the world. Culminating in simultaneously being employed as staff photographer for Surfer Magazine in the USA, Senior Photographer for Tracks Magazine in Australia and Head of Photography for Rip Curl International.
Andrew’s career took a turn towards more narrative and motion orientated projects organically over the years and has lead to him winning multiple awards for cinematography. He has worked with numerous clients and production companies worldwide on campaigns for a long list of companies that includes the likes of Apple, Toyota, Patagonia and the Australian Defence Force.
Continuing on his Directorial and Cinematography journey, Andrew leans toward projects that have an emotional connection to environmental issues as is realised in his latest work, KIN, for Patagonia. His connection with the natural world and ability to create considered, informative yet poetic narratives has become what he truly aspires to in his storytelling through the medium of film.
Real stories, told beautifully and truthfully, both in imagery and narrative.
