Pipeline - Hawaii

pipe-.jpg

Pipeline, on the North Shore of Oahu Hawaii, has always been one of my favourite places on the planet to shoot in the water. Recently I have been revisiting old images shot on film during the 90’s and early 00’s and this one fell out of a slide box. I can honestly say I may have completely overlooked this image back when it was shot and processed due to the nature of editorial back then.

I instantly fell in love with it when I stumbled across it though. It brings back so many memories of lonely swims and surfs on less than ideal days whilst staying with friends on the North Shore. The sheer power and beauty of the waves on the North Shore, and Pipeline in particular, have always been something I have been in awe.

This image particularly brings back many emotions and the underexposure really gives it a mysterious and eerie feeling. Getting caught inside on big days with only a few souls around was always quite a daunting situation. Especially if the sun had already set.
