Above the clouds, beneath the sun, reflection is a must.
In this day and age we have many choices. We are bombarded by information about the world around us (usually skewed the way of the political standing of the publication) and stories of grandeur from social media. We also hear so much about the fights we have on our hands to save the planet we live on from wiping us from its face.
There are many aspects to this. Is global warming real? Do we need to drill more oil from the earth right now in ridiculously dangerous circumstances? Is farming introduced fish species in pristine natural environments causing major harm? Can I be more conscious about my carbon footprint whilst still travelling for work or pleasure? These are a just a few issues I have been thinking about recently due especially to my exposure to the issues through my work with Patagonia.
They’re all big issues, and yes we could all get extremely lost in the maelstrom of information and just give up on it all and turn a blind eye. But I feel that as a collective if we all just realise that not taking some small steps to creating a better earth environment for, our own, and future generations we may all just be out of luck.
My feeling is that if we can all find one thing to focus on that we feel can help make the earth we live on a better place, then those efforts will be enough to spur our friends, neighbours, associates or children on in getting involved where they see they can make a difference. No matter how small the difference is, we need to think differently about how that difference affects the world around us, and hopefully in the process turn the current trend around.
