On assignment recently I had the good fortune of catching up with one of my oldest friends, James Mcmillan. We had many adventures when we were young, from surfing Desert Point in a time when it was merely just a rumour amongst travelling surfers. An unknown destination for us that we had heard about through the grapevine, we journeyed overland and ferry to Lombok with board bags as beds and a little information to try and get ourselves to this mystical place, one of the most perfect waves in the world.

We eventually found our way there, and the journey was worth it, for a few weeks we camped on the beach and surfed the best waves we had ever experiensed, with only 3 other people in the water. One of those life changing trips that you don’t realise until later just how lucky you were.

James is an amazing surfer and Artist, and our time together again for this assignment only solidified why we got along so well for all those years. As it happens, life took us in different directions and we haven’t had much time together over the last few years. But it felt like only yesterday the second we caught up.
